How to play
- Each letter in the quote has been swapped for a different letter. Every A in the code is the same real letter, every B is another, and so on.
- Tap a letter in the puzzle, then tap the real letter on the keyboard below (or type it). It fills in everywhere that code letter appears.
- Hint reveals one letter. Check marks wrong letters in red. Use Erase or Backspace to remove a letter.
- No letter ever stands for itself. Start with short words: a one-letter word is almost always A or I.

A cryptogram is a short text, here a famous quote, where every letter has been replaced by another letter. You solve it by working out which letter is which, using word shapes and common letters. Read how to solve cryptograms.
When does the daily cryptogram change?
A new puzzle starts at midnight in your own time zone. Everyone gets the same quote on the same date.
Can I play earlier puzzles?
Yes. The archive has every daily cryptogram since the first one, and free play gives you a new puzzle whenever you want, in easy, medium or hard.
Where do the quotes come from?
Every quote is from a writer or speaker of the past whose work is in the public domain, such as Mark Twain, Jane Austen, Benjamin Franklin or Oscar Wilde. We checked each quote and its author against Wikiquote and left out quotes that are doubtful or often misattributed.
